This is truly a fascinating and inspiring speech given by one of the most influential people in American history. One interesting thing about this speech that was not mentioned by previous posts in this blog is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s admiration of and loyalty to the laws and constitution of the United States of America. This is a nation that had betrayed him and his people, treated them like no human being should ever be treated. Even with all this he still praised our government, saying that it only needs to be corrected, and that is the beauty of our system. We have the ability to protest and make changes in our own system, a right that few other places in the world have.
Another thing that I found interesting in this speech that reflects the culture of the time, is his use of God. I think it adds an interesting dimension to the whole situation. Both sides of the racial separation at the time used God to justify their actions. This would not happen today, and it makes me wonder if this revolution were to happen today if it would actually work now that there is not a primary uniting religion on both sides.
